Please raise a hand if you are using a text expander on your machine. You know, that little piece of software sitting quietly in the background waiting for you to enter predefined short text sequences just to trigger great text expansions that are saving you a lot of typing. And in case you are not already using one I’d say you should check the available solutions for your OS.
I’ve been using text expanders for years. I never really checked their statistics, but I’m pretty sure they’ve saved me a lot of typing (for example I have special shortcuts for email signatures). While I’m pretty sure there are a couple of other solutions, I’ve been using TextExpander on my Mac machine and I’ve been pretty happy with it.
Today I’m hearing that TextExpander has launched their iPhone app. Due to the iPhone OS limitations, TextExpander iPhone app will not work the same way as the desktop app does, but I still think it might be a good tool for the geeks in us.
I haven’t tested it myself yet, but if you drop me a code I’ll gladly take it for a ride.
Update: I have gratefully received a code for TextExpander iPhone app from the Smile on my Mac guys. I’m currently playing with the app and I’ll post my findings very soon.
This post is part of the iPhone apps for geeks series where I’m exploring the different apps for geeky daily tasks. The last articles have featured a couple of iPhone apps available on special offers iPhone WriteRoom Free and Good Reader a great PDF reader.
